Digest version: still early days yet, but we have a considerably faster, rebuilt version of Cycles to look forward to.
path guiding
This is why not expecting much is a good thing! I wasn’t expecting the announcement of a new version of Cycles at all!
Edit: In terms of marketing, they should have waited to release Blender 3.0 with the new Cycles X.
Oh, no. I liked the orange. Biggest disappointment. I’m moving to 3dsmax, scanline renderer FTW
Dude. Son. Think about it. You know about hurricanes, right? That’s wind! A lot of it! The fury of hurricanes will be powering your renders!
Nothing Max can do matches the awesomeness of that.
I really want to test the build
I want too but there is no cycles-x branch as mentioned in https://code.blender.org/2021/04/cycles-x/
We have to wait a bit.
Cheers, mib
Ooops, forgot to update, it is there. Start building, hehe.
For the people who rely exclusively on blender.org for their builds, they said it’d be about 6 months before it appears in Master, and probably about 8 before it’s in an official release, likely landing in 3.1.
See what they was able to accomplished based on a 10 years old base code, I’m really curious about what independent developers will be able to do on this new, more optimize architecture, it will be insane
But people will build and provide builds on graphicall in upcoming days.
And official developers will probably provide builds as experimental builds before it ends up in master.
A lot of people don’t know about graphicall, though. I didn’t until about 3 weeks ago.
Really good news. I hope they will make a downloadable branch just like for alpha currently.
Up to 7x speedup and no tile rendering. Damn.
this was like christmas, very excited.
seems like non of us saw this coming, but I’m happy for once to have guessed wrong
For this and for the future, we definitely need some sort of CyclesLeaks® site!
Thanks you, I got the branch to build but got errors in Cuda and Optix kernels.
Nice WE for testing.
Cheers, mib
Daaaaaamn… hype was worth it
yw, I tried building it too, but got infinitely stuck on hpdf_destination.h
Prolly just a one time thing.
Hi, I make a new thread about CyclesX for testing.
I guess there are other Cycles development in the next month, at least I hope so.
Cheers, mib
