Cycles Fire Material Without Actual Flames

Hey, does anyone know of a good way to create a fire material in cycles using just smoke as the input? I know how to easily use the attribute node with “flame” in the text box if I want to use the flame data, but I’d like to know a general idea of how to create a fire material the old way with just smoke data (before we had actual fire simulation). I just need to know a basic node setup. I’ll tweak it to fit my needs. Thanks!

You just drive emission by the density or heat attributes instead of the flame attribute (“heat” might require a nightly build, can’t remember if that made it in 2.77). Basically, treat it as a single incandescent plume instead of something with a discrete burning region.
