Cycles material control problem (translucncy)

I’m having trouble figuring out the translucency in cycles, is there a way to control how translucent an object is and is there a way to map translucency?

Eh, doesn’t really give me the effect I’m looking for. I guess I’m looking for something like SSS, is there a way to do that in cycles?

The shading functionality that would allow for true SSS effects is not yet implemented in Cycles, but there are some builds on Graphicall containing a volumetric rendering patch for Cycles that may allow the creation of some SSS-like effects.
