Cycles mess everything up when I hit Render!!!!

This is what happens when I hit Render (F12) using Cycles GPU rendering.

WHY?!?!?!?

I am using default Blender 2.66 from Blender.org.
It happens in versions from Graphicall.org too.

Looks like you don’t have any proper lighting set up.

How has lighting have anything to do with why Blender changes my mesh when I hit render?
It is not supposed to alter my mesh when I hit Render!!!

This is what my temple used to be like, before hitting F12:

After I hit F12 (only sometimes!), Cycles changes my mesh so that I have to hit Undo (CTRL+Z) to get back to my original mesh.

Highlight in a screenshot in what way it changed your mesh ?

As you can see, my temple gets messed up when I hit F12 (first picture).

Link deleted.

The “funny” thing is that it doesn’t always (usually it doesn’t) do this wierd bug when I hit render. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t.

I see potential overlapping faces/duplicate vertices in the centre section (not a cycles issue) but with no proper lighting it’s difficult to tell.

What you are highlighting is not what I modelled. I modelled what you see in my last picture. When hitting F12, Cycles actually changes my mesh in my 3D viewport, making the overlapping faces (like in the picture that you highlighted).

Yes, that’s right: When I hit f12, it not only renders. It actually changes my very model! Sometimes, if I have linked objects, the linked objects disappear or gets into a new position.

I tried Google, but nobody else seems to have the same problem: Render with Cycles changes mesh in 3D viewport.

Attach your blend file.

Post a screenshot and annotate what changes to your mesh when you render. Show me exactly what the problem is so I don’t have to guess

Does you model have any modifiers set to be active only at render time ?
Have you applied any keyframes ?

I have no modifiers active only at render time. I have no keyframes.

The problem is that I can’t reproduce the bug when I want. It just happens. Sometimes I open the same file, nothing happens and it renders without problems, other times when I open the very same .blend file, and I haven’t changed anything, hitting f12 changes everything.

The first screenshot I provided says it all. That ugly mesh was created by hitting F12.

If your not willing to attach/post your blend file I’m unable to give you any further help.

I’ve sent you a PM with a link. I don’t want everyone to have my .blend.

OP visited support channel #blender on IRC. Cannot see “bug” across multiple users from given file.

Then it must have been a bug with that specific Blender version I was using from Graphicall.org.

An error in your model is missing a face on the underside of the top slab. Look better when the face is added
