Cycles Multi Material Question

I’m modeling a character that requires different materials for skin, clothing, boots etc.

Normally I would assign different materials to different faces on the mesh, but I would love to use cycles to render it.

Can Cycles use multiple materials on different parts of a mesh? eg. can you make a suzanne that’s… for instance, glass with chrome eyes?

I suspect not and I’ll go back to Internal for now, but if it is possible… Yaay!

hmmm. Perhaps I can UV map colour, texture and specular maps to do the trick.

It’s cool - I figured it out. Using greyscale UV maps to control mix-shader strengths.

This little guy has glowing stripes on his vest as well as the stripe on the traffic cone, his boots and the cone have different levels of shine and the vest has a knitted displacement.

All in a single mesh with a single material!

Although you can do it that way, Cycles uses multiple materials Just like blender internal.

But, how do you assign faces to materials in the Cycles GUI (Nodes or otherwise). There is no “Assign” feature as far as I can see.

do it in normal blender then go to cycle and select the mateiral at top of panel then add a new cycle mat for it then do it for each material!

that’s all

salutations

But there is, becoming accessible in edit mode, just like in BI, look:

To see the colors set viewport shading to “Material”.
