Cycles render of RC helicopter

Animaniac888,

Thanks for commenting. Regarding the blue, yeah i should have checked it against a reference photo to make sure i had the right shade.

I was experimenting with the rotor material, trying a mixture of diffuse and transparent since the real blades allow light (and a bit of color) to pass through. Guess it needs a bit more adjustment though if it looks yellow.
I’ll try a bit more spec on the next render, i was trying to eye it in, but it’s tricky to get right.

Well, i played with the shaders some more, added more spec, changed the color, ect.

Wow, this is really great now. The spec is correct now I think. The blue is now too light, as opposed to too dark before. The rotor design on the blue one has a lightning bolt pattern on the edges, and the white color on the syma is pure white. Also, the blue one I have has the words “3D Full Function Helicopter” on the “cockpit” part and the words “Syma S107G Gyro System” where the design under “S107”. Again, I’m impressed with the detail, you’re on your way to a photoreal heli.

Animaniac888,

Hmm, i noticed there were a number of different styles for both blades and cockpits when looking for reference pictures. As far as i can tell, the style i rendered was actually produced. I’m not sure yet if i want to create the other textures for it or not. I’ll have to see if i can find a reference for the one you are describing.

facepalm Yeah I just realized that I was describing my model, which is the S107G, while you are modeling the S107. However, the blue is still a bit light, just disregard the rest of what I said.

Well a darker blue. Worked on the cockpit a bit more, hopefully making it more accurate as well.

Animaniac888, i looked for pictures of blades with a blue lightning design but did not see any, perhaps they were discontinued? If you attach a good picture of what they look like i’ll see about rendering up a picture with them in it.

Yeah I am pretty sure I have a weird model of helicopter or one that was not produced much. Or a clone/fake, because I have not seen any other pics/vids of the same heli. Anyways, there’s something about your blue that just doesn’t match my heli or the pics. It’s not just the lightness but maybe you could up the green channel a little on the color and reduce the red channel, possibly that could get a better match.

And mine’s probably a fake.

Animaniac888,

after taking a closer look at the color i agree with you, the last render was more a blue-purple than blue. So i gave it another try. As for yours being an imitation, i really couldn’t say. In any event its hard to copy the style without reference pictures.

Photorealism achieved, I think. Nice job.

Animaniac888,

Thanks, and thanks for your comments, it helps to have a second set of eyes.

Thought i’d try all three colors together.

I love those helos, can you give us the blendfile, Please?

Very nice model!!! Well done!!

Randy

chk,

Thanks for commenting. Which two do you have? As for the blend file, i’m intending to hold on to it for now.

revolt_randy,

Thanks!

Great job!

What’s the lighting setup? It looks so realistic!

dOMINUS,

Thank you.

Agonyworm,

Thanks for commenting. The lighting setup is really quite simple, a four panel mesh with an emit value of 4. The four panel system gives it a window like effect. I’m sure there are better lighting setups out there but i was pleased with the effect. Also, i like short render times, so i try to keep things as simplified as i can while still achieving the effect i’m after.

Nice idea! Nice achievement!

Yeah the simple feel really shows off the model, as I said before great job

Now that looks real! Still no sparkles but maybe it’s just with my chopper? Congrats on making it on Blender Nation!

I have the yellow and the blue one, they are just awesome.
