Cycles Strand Rendering

Stunning! It’s renderings like these that lead me to believe that Blender can be used to produce animations right up there with Pixar’s ‘Brave’ and ‘Wall-e’!

Can’t wait for Brecht to finish SSS / Volume / ubershader / displacement and BroadStu GPU hair rendering

WOOOOW you R gr8 - the first one rulez !!!

im on architecture renders, please share nodes

The best way imo could be to match the Blender internal behaviour, with size in blender units.
In this way you could composite in an easy way a render done with Blender internal and one done with Cycles.

I would caveat this–please add your measurement scale in the tooltip for the field.

Noodles anyone? Yeah the illusion kinda breaks down if you get too close.

Well, I wouldn’t call it unrealistic either, most non 3D people would never say it was anything else than a photo of a rug…

@andrewprice that doesn’t look to shabby up close! I was fooled and though your first close up was a 3d rendering I was so amazed how there was such “many different” hair particle setups.

Very cool Andrew, can you zoom to a single noodle please ? :stuck_out_tongue:

Kind regards
Alain

This is probably as realistic as you can get. If I didn’t know better I could have sworn it was real.

just a test with some photorealistic grass. 300,000 strands:

@BroadStu : I think it would be nice to have both possibilities, some use hair for carpets, some for grass, some for hair. We can’t find a unit that feet every needs so let the user decide ?

This rug is amazing.
Great work Andrew.

I re-worked on a character with the new patch and cycles

you can see also the old render and designin internal here

and he is going to be the roommate of this guy that I posted here before

watch hair in HD
cheers

I would really like to see that first guy in motion. Looks great!

thanks B-Rae. you can actually see him in motion but with the internal render, and also style of animation is gonna change.

Looks absolutely great.

A lot of great tests happening here still. @snot_nose: I’m really enjoying your style! Keep up the good work

Here’s my latest strand-rendering venture. It’s the result of a tutorial series I’m working on for Blender Cookie.

Kent, that is awesome!!!
