cycles supported and experimental

dear all

please guide me how to setup the render settings to render a scene in cycles with some mesh having supported features and some other having experimental features
(for example, subsurface scattering is not supported by GPU but glass is perfect by gpu rendering
So if I want a piece of butter in a glass tumbler, what would be the way to set up the scene?)
