I download the latest version of blender 2.61 and i will like to render with my graphic card , coz with the processor takes too long, how can i render with my GPU?
I even download from graphicall.org
Cycles (with CUDA OpenCL)
And in Display i don’t see the GPU choice
Is in development and should i wait or am i doing something wrong which is the feeling i have ?
thanks!!
CUDA won’t work with that graphics card and OpenCL is still very limited (clay render only)
For OpenCL, change to the Cycles renderer and in the Render / Feature Set dropdown select Experimental. You should then have an option to select between CPU and OpenCL GPU
You need the latest Catalyst driver for AMD cards. The latest version is 12.1 for windows and 11.12 for Ubuntu

Hey I have the same problem. I have Catalyst 11.10, though. I’ve tried installing 11.12 several times, but Catalyst still reports itself as 11.10.
I solution the problem and the render is going very fast°!! , but for some reason is not working, the lights, and change the colors of the objects surface. Everything is like white like in the image below
As I said in my previous post, OpenCL rendering is currently limited to clay rendering.
Download GPU-Z.0.5.6 from their website and run it, it will say if opencl is enabled; obviously, your card needs to support it.
Even if it does support it, you may actually find rendering is slower. I have an ati HD6950 with 2gb and don’t get a huge increase; computer (not blender) crashes on occasions too.
Try Storm’s patch, which lets you render some shaders and volumes in OpenCL. http://graphicall.org/767
I have a run time error =( , so weird, do u have any other update?

This is the error
@lenoxmo: forget, it really buggy. That was snapshot from my local tree when i first time make GPU render on my hardware, I make so many changes to manage it so it work only on my setup. Actually, I “cut” Cycles features line by line until it start work, sure it ruine other hardware/os combination.
BTW, problem is not in Cycles core, but AMD OpenCL compiler or driver have problem to compile and run big kernels. All what we AMD users can do it push AMD developers to do home work.
No updates to that patch, it have no point, it seems that AMD compiler can manage only code size smaller then some threshold. You can comment out code lines here or there, result is same.
Please follow the following link as many times as possible, on that blog is a hitcounter and some important links that are aimed at either supporting development of blender or AMD OPENCL, as well as the most important link of all, the one with exclamation marks, which takes you onto the AMD issue report form…
once you please leave a comment that encourages other viewers of that website to follow pursuit.
Heres the link folks, use it as much as possible(as may have noticed there is no donation button or any adverts)
