Dark Patches appear when I shade smooth

Hi does anyone know what is happening here and how to fix it?

Three things that come to mind:

  • Check your face orientation (viewport overlays > face orientation). Anything red, select and Mesh > Normals > Flip
  • you might have duplicate geometry. Press M and choose By Distance to delete duplicate geometry.
  • this could be a topology issue, what’s your wireframe looking like?

Is this a UV texture?

ive flipped the normals and i dont think i have duplicate geometry

The dark patches don’t show up on wireframe but they do show up on xray


Oh I see it now those dark patches are holes. Try going into edit mode, selecting all, F3 > Fill Holes
