Hello everyone!
I decided to embark on a new project. Given the amount of experience that I have been gathering for the last years I believe that it’s time for me to try to model something huge again. What is it this time? I will try to recreate a whole scene from one of my most beloved games of all time, Dark Souls.

This is the reference: Shrine of Amana, I believe this scene has a lot of potential

I’ll be posting everything that I deem to be important.
This be the first render:
First day:
- aligning the camera with the view, making the foundations and creating those arc scone. These arc stones have proven to be a little bit difficult, at first I decided to implement a simple curved arc stone pattern (like those that are seen in the medieval gates…) but then I realised that there was a simple way to make more complex patterns by using empty object, array, and simple deform.
Day 2
references, references! that’s all I needed. I came back to my previous game and, luckily for me I had one previous game which granted me access to that particular Area. I paid a visit and I took as many reference photos as I could,
I remade almost the entirety of what I made yesterday, and for now I want to keep it as low poly as possible. As for some details (I always have this problem), should I 3D model them or just add them with textures. Don’t know…
Here’s today’s render
Day 3
Well well, things are going well. Today was a simple day, I did not make that much really, just copy and paste the structures I made the days before and edit them to make them look different.
Additions:
- Water
- The structure placed at the right side of the image is done
- Bonfire
- some other columns
- ground
Day 4 (After a long time…)
Due to personal circumstances, I did not have the time (nor the will) to make further progress in my scene. However, I found myself with much more time in these weeks.
Well, as far as I am concerned I am almost finished with the modeling part. I am quite certain that I will have to make some changes in the meshes of some objects (pillars and windows maybe…) but for now, I am quite happy with the overall result. Those flowers that you see in the first reference image are what I am spending my time on. I decided to go with a simple yet effective model, apply some groups and use said groups into different surfaces to apply them as particles. I did the same with the pebbles on the rock path.
I did have some problems with the new realese of Blender 2.8. I wanted to test my scene on Eevee and for some reason when I loaded my scene back into Blender 2.79 it crashed. I am afraid I will have to continue with my project in Blender 2.8
This is the render. I added the rest of the scenery, flowers, rocks, pebbles (and their corresponding textures). The next days I will have to work on the wall and pillars’ textures on Substance designer:
Feedback is always appreciated!
