Dealing with stress

Wow, I have such an insanely stressful job. I have a new boss and we are getting tons of jobs in all the time and I can barley keep up, I have several projects due tomorrow. I’m a graphic artist btw, I do t-shirt designs. Anyways, I have a high stress job because of all the business and because I have a co-worker that hates Christians with a passion and everything else, is completely negative, is rude to costomers and throughs big fits all the time because something did’nt go his way, or he had to talk to a costomer he did’nt want to talk to, or he had to open a door or answer a phone or do his job. Seriously, the guy is a psycho. Anyway, this causes me a ton of stress cause I have to deal with this guy all day and he’s always making me screw up. Not only that, but I’m taking on a second graphics job that I’ll work at from home, “a conglomorant” and I’ll be doing 3D graphics and some 2D graphic design as well as some flash and webpage design as well too probably. So I have a lot going on, not to mention I do media stuff for my church. So how do I keep from flying off the handel when the world around me is going up in flames? Not sure, I’m so relaxed and at peace, the only thing I can think about is that it must be God, I’m a very positive person, used to be real negative when I had a depression problem, but I’m really amazed at how I’m able to handel all this stuff going on.
So tell me how you deal with stress.

Take something like ten to twenty minutes a day and just read the Bible or listen deeply to classical music or something that is simply calming. Some people call it meditation but that is an ‘iffy’ word. I know at least someone is going to say “I like to blend” well I personally find that somewhat stressful, although it can be stress relieving as well. Good luck! Any word on that little movie project you mentioned to us awhile back?

Yes, it was awesome fun, the name of it is Shattered Heros. The trip to Austin was fun, we had a great time shooting it, especially the WWII renactment, there’s nothing like seeing a big tank shoot right in front of you. We got a few good shots, but the sun was evil and made it hard for us to shoot, so we’ll have to reshoot some scenes, we also came up with a subplot on the fly while we were there and shot it. Great fun, I had an awesome sunburn as well, I love sunburns (yes I’m a freak) they make me feel gggggooooooooooddddd!

Haven’t we heard this before? Do we have to hear it again? Don’t you think about our stress levels before you post?

Okay, if my personality were different all those questions would be relevant, but I actually find it amusing just as you should find the antics of your co worker amusing. You have a comedy show going on right in front of you but you don’t find it funny because you didn’t pay for it. There’s more comedy happening around you every day than you can pay for, and you don’t need a couch to watch it!

This guy you’re working with sounds pretty ignorant. I think its wrong to hate a group of people without reason. Perhaps he will get fired soon if he’s doing such a crappy job. Im the kind of guy who tends not to care what others think of me, so i dont get stressed too often. When i do get stressed, i love to play video games. Halo 2 is the ultimate stress reliever for me.

I make a list of everything to be done (IN ORDER!), and cross stuff off it.

make sure your priority is right before you start working on the list, and that way, you get the most important stuff done, other people can read it and see where there job sits in the “queue”, and you can see your progress really easily. Whiteboards are a good idea.

Make sure you’re well rested physically each day, and eat well. That alone will boost your strength, making things feel easier then before.

^^Amen

You’d be suprised how far a good rest and a healthy breakfast will get you. I can almost link my stress level with how much I’m lacking in both those areas. Also, avoid fast foods! Lots of grease and sugar brings you down fast. Eating right makes a huge improvement as does exercise. Just a few quick stretching exercises in the morning can really get you going.

The hard part is getting down on yourself when you feel down. You gotta realize that it’s much more likely that you just haven’t eaten well.

(Edit: PS, Jack Black is Jewish)

Yeah, just eat and sleep well and make space for some meditation/relaxation/quiet time.

Man Jackblack, you MUST be stressed. Your sentence and paragraph structure has fallen appart. Just kidding (Though, that is something that bugs the crap out of me in real life… and bad grammer)

Yea, me too. Nothing’s more relaxing than driving the ghost around, by yourself, on bloodgoulch… er ummm, quagulation.

MHO (no flame wars please please):

#1 All aspects of human relations have a spritual dynamic associated with them. Try to keep your perspective inclusive of the entire picture. If you focus on his personality alone you are focusing for the most part on the world of effects and not the world of causes. You must be spiritually awake to deal with that kind of situation properly. Only then can you see all that’s involved in the circumstance.
#2 If you love those who love you what reward do you have? Bless those who curse you and pray for those who despitefully use you and you will be the brother of Mashiach and the Son of your Heavenly Father. That may not actually change the situation but make it worse.
#3 Because lawlessness will increase the love of many will wax cold> But the one who endures to the end shall be saved.
#4 There is nowhere in this present order of things that will be free of “stress”. It’s the times we are in and often pressure can come when outward circumstances don’t even seem to warrent it.
#5 We wrestle not against flesh and blood…
#6 YHVH is my refuge and high tower. He will protect me and be my shield. I don’t think we were ever intended to deal with this stuff on our own.
#7 All things work together for good for them who love God and are called according to His purposes.
#8 The quirks of your own personality could be generating some of the flack. It may not be all one sided. You may be rubbing him the wrong way as a person and not as a Christian. Not easy to sort through all of that.

All of the above are not merely attempts to generate false optimism or positivistic humanism. Rather than play mind games to cope with the situation, or attempt to mimic the above suggestions, you must resolve it spritually, in truth, and allow the hardship to perform its perfect work in you. You can influence your associate to change but the choice is his own. He may not. You have choices that can allow this darkness to conform you into the image of Mashiach. Expect the worst. Hope for the best. And press on.
That is how I deal with it.

Wow, good post ox  . I do tend to forget to pray for Greg, everyone thinks he should chill, but personaly I think (please no flames) he’s demon possessed. He keeps telling me about all this crazy ghost stuff that happens at his house, things that cannot readily understood, flashes of light in a room, books and other things flying off shelves and stuff. He has all this uncontrolable anger inside and he’s especialy rude to a customer if he finds out they’re a republican, he calls them “The Enemy” to they’re face. I don’t care where someone is politically, you do not treat customers disrespectfully. This guy lets his anger control him and he has no peace, I know I can’t influence him in a positive way, I’ve tried and felled many times, I’m always positive and try to bring positivity to everyone. I will definantly pray for him every night, thanks for reminding me ox.

I once was demon possessed. There’s hope in Mashiach for the darkest of souls. But you know this already so forgive my reminder. As I type this I am thinking of the incident with the legion. Mashiach really transformed that situation.
Nevertheless, working in that environment isn’t fun. I’ve been there many times. It hurts but can bring about good in us.
Hey, pray for me too!

I walk, and just let my mind wander. That works for me.

Sleep and a healthy breakfast are essential, as is excercise. Here’s my suggestion for you: learn to let the crazies just roll off you. They have their own problems, and they’re just venting. Getting angry won’t be productive for anybody, and will probably be counterproductive. If your schedule keeps filling up, I think you need to start dropping things on a low priority. If you do media stuff for your church on a volunteer basis, just tell them that right now is a really stressful time for you and you need to loosen up your schedule for a bit.

Oooh where does he live jackblack? Just kidding, but that would be cool to do an investigation in his house, where do you work anyhow jackblack? (That’s three times I almost typed my name)

What you need are employees my friend… I am a manager, so I have people that must grovel at my feet. Well, actually come to think of it there hasn’t been much groveling lately. I’ll have to take care of that tommorrow, but I digress.

What you need are some lackeys, stoolies, schmucks. Thats right, someone to take the heat when everything goes wrong. Someone to take out your agressions on when you wife didn’t feel like doin the do the night before… ya that’s what you need just a little stress relief in the good ol american fashion.

DISCLAMER: I treat the people who work for me as well as I possibly can. There is little left in this world after the eight hours a day we put into it that make going through all that crap worth it. I listen to thier ideas, and actively allow input. Even when I know it is wrong, just to let people make mistakes on thier own without having to worry about consequences.

Also, I’m not married…

I live in Good Ol’ Texas, Wichita Falls that is. I work at a screen printing shop. I’ve been working 12 hour shifts here lately, I come home tired, usually eat out with some friends, then watch a movie and then try to get some sleep, but that usually doesn’t happen for some reason, then I wake up to the sound of my roommates in MY room singing and dance for some strange reason, in an attempt to wake me up early, then one of them attacks me with boxing gloves as I’m about to leave to go to work. Strange and funny. I do need to start eating healthier though as well, that might help with the sleep thing. Ox I love being reminded of the awesomeness of Yeshua, He RaWk’s, thankyou ox, I find you to be very wise and appreciate your input! I also appreciate everyone elses input, it’s great to know such intelligent awesome artists.

Texas, eh, yup, there’s some cold hearted crazy people in Texas. Had you try taking up guitar ? Cats are also good stress relievers

Texas, eh, yup, there’s some cold hearted crazy people in Texas.

There are cold-hearted crazy people everywhere.

DwarvenFury

p.s. Don’t mess with Texas.

p.p.s. Don’t take this post very seriously.

I haven’t read everything in this thread since I’m so stressed, but here is my favourite stress-relieving technique:

Punch the dry wall in your house, preferably not your room (perhaps a sibling’s?). Make sure no one is around, and then build up your anger and unleash it on the wall. You’ll have to punch it lightly at first, to see where the beams are. When you find a spot that feels a bit softer, just let go and keep hitting it until you have a nice sized hole.

Now, if you live with other people eventually they will notice the gaping holes in their walls. I’ve always found it easier to explain that I was moving some furniature around, but if that doesn’t work you can always restrain your stress-relief to your own room. If you don’t have the money to patch all the holes in your wall, a cheaper alternative could be to unleash your anger on the source of your stress - your family, co-workers, and people who piss you off in general.

Suffice it to say I have numerous holes and dents on the walls in my room. They are a constant reminder to me of the cruelty of god and the irrationality of the universe in which we live.
