Default Settings

How do I set the default size of objects added to my scene. When I add an Armature (for example), it is so small I can’t even locate it.

Where do I establish the size objects should be when initially added? Thanks for the help!

I’m not sure of how to change the default sizes of objects, but I’m curious about what your default Unit System and Unit Scale is set to.

You must be zoomed out by a thousand percent or so… the default size of a cube, for example, is 2.00 units, and there isn’t a Preferences setting to change that. As dumb as this sounds, try zooming in :wink:

Just to alaborate a bit on that.
The defaults radius of any object in Blender is 1. Of course this translates to an object that is 2 units wide.

markholley - It’s Metric, with a Unit Scale of 1.000000

Have you tried zooming, though? And also, are you in perspective? Switch to orthographic and zoom to a normal level- there’s nothing wrong with your unit settings, so it has to be something you’ve done in the 3D viewer.

@markholley

Are you using Blender Version 2.79 or 2.8 (?)

2.80. Why do you ask?

@markholley

Because 2.79’s keyboard-shortcut (SET OBJECT SCALE TO DEFAULT) was (ALT-S)

2.8’s new short-cut is different I think.

I didn’t mention anything about shortcuts.

@markholley

Shortcut was for this :arrow_up:

In 2.79.

Cool. The OP might be using 2.79.

I’ve never used 2.79 and I didn’t know that there even was a shortcut for either 2.79 or 2.80. I’ve never had reason to fiddle with my default object scale - most of the stuff I’ve done is standard living-room type stuff.

@markholley

Did some Blender 2.8 short-cuts research.

I think short-cut (RESET OBJECT SCALE TO DEFAULT) --> (ALT-S) still works in Blender 2.8.

Okay, thanks! I’ll remember it if I ever run across any problems with scale.

@markholley

Did the shortcut work for you (?)

I haven’t tried it.

I think that you might have me confused with the original poster, @RPaladin. I’m markholley, the original poster is @jmarkt. I’m not having any trouble with my scale settings.

So far, we’ve determined that jmarkt is using Metric with a Unit Scale of 1.00. It was suggested that he or she switch to an orthographic view and zoom in.

@markholley

OH MY GOODNESS! . . .

Your absolutely correct :blush: (100x)

@jmarkt is this the solution that you were looking for (?) :arrow_up:

Sorry for the late response, markholley. The string got a bit confusing! Yes, that resolved my issue - thanks!
