New to blender and don’t have GPU support and as a result I use CPU with cycles for modeling as well as rendering.When evee is activated everything slows down. Is their a way to make cycles my default in 2.8 vs. having to change to cycles every time I open up Blender? Thanx inadvance.

Have you tried File -> Defaults -> Save Startup File?
I’m not 100% sure, but that might work. Just make sure you switch to Cycles in whatever workspace you want before you save.
