Deform particle system instances or animation nodes

Hello everyone, so I’m working on a medical viz. I have a cell that I need to clone thousands of times but the cell has a branch on the top that needs to grow to a specific point in the space.

How can I influence the length of this branch after the instancing process so that can grow or shrink based on the position of the instance itself?

I fill this is not possible but maybe I’m wrong.
Could this be achieved with animation nodes? If yes, can anyone help to point me in the right direction from where to start to get that results with animation nodes?
