Delay the effects of physics

i have an item that falls and bounces.
in 2.69 can i delay the start of the whole thing?
so i press alt I and it does not fall til later?

One way is to write your current animation out to an Alembic file .abc. In a new scene import the .abc file. The Mesh Sequence Cache modifier applied after import has a parameter to delay the start of the animation. It’s like a pre-hold frame count.

thanks - that looks a little too difficult for me.
i guess that is treating blender as a video editor.

is there no other way?
because lots of things will happen at once in the 6 sec video.
so to include it - would mean stopping every thing else and then starting this scene.
