How do I delete unwanted datablock names from the action and IPO editors?
And how do I delete an unwanted animation from a collection of animations?

Once you have unlinked them with X you have to get rid of the link to Fake User. Goto Shft-F4 and click on the white dots at the top of the tree to backspace. Choose “Action”, use RMB to select those you want to delete, hit F to remove the Fake User, close the window and Save and reopen.

Thanks Fligh. This works fine for unwanted actions, but what do I press to delete uinwanted IPOs after shift F4 and “IPO” ?

Just hit the X (if it’s a single user it’ll revert to a zero user with a 0 in front of it) and will disappear after save and reload.
