Depth shader help!

Call it a height map or a depth map or whatever. I need to set up a shader like in this tutorial:

The problem is that the nodes system has changed so much in Blender since 2.49a (the version this tutorial is based on) that I don’t recognize it.

Can somebody please translate what this node setup would be in the current 2.62 ?
