Hey all…I’ve already posted this in the Finished Projects thread but I thought I’d post it here too to get some good tips for my next project. Rendered with BI and color correction/desaturation with Photoshop. Thanks in advance!
there are some gaps around the eyes, and the SSS is about 4x too strong
otherwise it looks great.
Good call. Been trying to figure the whole SSS thing. Are there any good rules of thumb on how to use it correctly? Any good tutorials?
Not wanting to self advertise too much but the tutorial took a while to write…

It’s a bit long winded because I wanted to convey a lot of the ‘why’ you do stuff rather than simply step by step, but it gets there. There is a link to a file near the top with all the textures and material settings packed in.
Word of mild warning though, it was written for 2.45 / 2.46 and I’ve learnt a bit since then so it might be mildly outdated. But the core of it still stands and should continue to be ok for 2.5 onwards.
Hey Ben…thanks for the link! I’m a fan of your work, especially your portraits, so your info will be a huge help.
