Describing lights

I’m writing a beginners book on Blender at the moment, and I’m a bit confused as to how to describe the effects of some of Blender’s light types. Can anyone please help me complete the following?

Point - like a candle
Sun - constant light from one direction. Does not matter where the light itself is positioned.
Spot - theatrical spotlight (V-shape beam)
Hemi - ??? not sure how to describe.
Area - ??? not sure how to describe.

Thanks in advance.

This is how I think of the lights:

Point is only like a candle when the falloff is enabled
Sun, only rotation matters. This may not be true when used with the atmosphere enabled. You may want to mention that the Sun light is the only light that can affect the Sky/Atmosphere.
Hemi is like an ambient
Area is like a group of point lights whose energy is the sum total of all the points. So if you have a square area light whose area is 10, it is like putting 10 point lights to cover the area and setting all their energy values to 0.1.
You may want to mention that Spot light is the only light that HALO effects can be used with.
