Desert Tank

Hi all!

I finished this project about two weeks ago. Its a tank based on this toy. I know it doesn’t look very functional but since its based on a toy I focused more on making it look cool.

I had posted it at the Focused Critique section but since its finished I’m also posting it here.

Sandstorm Version.

Clear Sky Version.

3/4 view.

If you are interested in a few more angles of the tank please check it out here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/9gGmL

Please let me know what you think!
I hope you like it!

Hi,
Fist of all nice render, I like the sandstorm render best, although the whitish colour sugggests mist rather than sand.
The model itself I think is great although the texturing could be somewhat improved.
You added some paint damage to the tank but almost only at the edges. It is realistic that the edges get damaged more quickly but i feel the difference between the edges and the planes is to strong, maybe you could add more overall damage and a bit less ‘edge damage’.
Furthermore edges that don’t stick out so much are also heavily damaged.
But nevertheless a nice model

Thank you for your nice words!
You have a keen eye! For the sand storm I actually used the mist pass and mixed it with a noise pattern and then added some directional blur and spin to make it look like the wind was blowing. I managed to darken it and give it an orange tint but apparently it could use some more.
You are right about the weathering. All edge wear is procedural using the pointiness node, so I had little control on how much goes where. The paint also has some damage and imperfections to it, but apparently it isn’t very visible. I have been honing my modeling skills for a while now, but obviously I need to also work my texturing.
Certainly something to improve on for my next models.
Again thank you for your kind words!
