Devide a face

I saw someone on Youtube devided a face. If u subdevide a face you get 4 faces, i only want to split a face in half.

How do i do That

a) In edge mode select opposing edges and subdivide, or
b) subdivide the face and dissolve unwanted edges, or
c) use Loop Cut tool, or
d) use Knife tool
