Devilish

Hi everyone!

I finished this project a few weeks ago and wanted to share with you guys.
In this project I modeled this character design from Satoshi Matsuura (hiziripro) and made all the animation and rendering steps with Blender.

Rendered with Cycles, using volumes and geometry nodes.

.

I made a fun animation with it, you can check it on this vimeo link

Everything was entirily rendered and composed with Blender

Here is a quick video showing the post effects:

These effects were also animated and randomized sometimes to reach the glitch effect I was looking for.

Here’s a quick rig demo I recorded to show either the character and the shader/fx rig I made:

With all that being said, if you’re still interested in this project and want to know more about the process and my thoughts throughout it, I’m working on a blog, which I call castle building.

You can check it out at this link: https://castlebuilding.substack.com/ – it works like a newsletter. If you subscribe, you’ll be notified every time I post via email.

I’m planning to post at least monthly, so don’t worry about getting spammed.
Also, if you guys are interested, I was planning to share more about the FX rig; some people seemed to be interested in it, and creating this rig was a really fun part of the process.

That’s it! Feel free to ask me anything about the project. Thank you!

That’s really good. I like the mix of hand painting and textures. He has good toe crinkle. When you said you animated it I looked at the toes and thought they might be too small for that birdlike grasp.

Thanks! I wanted to animate it in a way that the character’s hands would never leave the scythe, so I used the feet movements to give it more expression.

I think timing is always interesting on our projects. Like, we all don’t move our characters the same way so…its cool. The frozen hands kind of stiffened the torso. Anticipation before the take off would have been cool. Even scraping the scythe across the ground to get a feel for the weight he carries. I like it just, different perspective in the same character.

I featured you on BlenderNation, have a great weekend!
