Difference between 'Crease' sliding param -and- 'Mark As Sharp/Edge Split' combo?

Hi People,

I know that the ‘Edge Crease’ effects both basic mesh smoothing and then any SubSurf you put over the top of it, and it has a weight slider (wherease edge split does not), but is there any profound difference between ‘Crease’ -and- ‘Mark As Sharp/Edge Split’ combo, for if you are modeling on a SubSurfed mesh (presuming that what is wanted is as crisp/sharp a crease as possible)?

Also, is there a way to add sharpness to an individual vertex in the same kind of way that you crease and edge that subsurf will respect? So a vertex which, when pulled up and away from the surface looks like a cone that has had it’s sides curved to convex (like Blender’s Proportional Editing modes’s ‘Sharp’ falloff type shape!).

Thanks!

crease worls only with subsurf if i remember well

and in last resort you might use the edgesplit modifier

Sharp does not do anything i think if you use Subsurf only on normal mesh

Edge Crease has to do with Sub Surf geometry. You can control how Sub Surf mesh curves around corner.

Edge Split and Mark as Sharp does nothing to the mesh itself. It just adjusts how it gets rendered when Smooth Shading is active.

edge split will change the mesh if you apply it !

faces are splitted here !
