Different menu confusion?

I haven’t used blender in awhile, and upon coming back, I installed the newest version: 2.71

Problem I’m having is, when viewing tutorials, everyone has the same options except me, which is making it difficult to follow along. Not sure why things are different on my end. I did a complete removal and re-install of blender, to make sure it wasn’t a plugin/add-on. Any help would be wonderful.

The top image is using the Blender Render engine and the bottom image is using the Cycles Render Engine. You can change from one renderer to another with the drop down list at the top of the blender window
