Difficult Math Questions (Lines & Equations)

What I’ve got here is are rather difficult math questions, lets see who is able to answer it!

1: Write the equation of a line that is parallel to y= 7x + 4 and passes through (4,5)

2: Find the slope of the following lines (-4, 7), (-6,-4)

3: What is the Y-Intercept of this equation 6x-2y=19

Please don’t ask a forum to do your homework for you. None of these questions are particularly difficult, just look up the linear equation and it will give the answer to all of these

I hate to say it, but you are on a computer. You could just use Google to look it up.

 1. b=y-7x plug in x and y values

 2. delta y / delta x

 3. b when y=mx + b

Nice! I love math!

1: Write the equation of a line that is parallel to y= 7x + 4 and passes through (4,5)

y=7x+4
y=7x+4, (1/7,5)…(4-1/7=3 6/7)
y=7x+4+(3 6/7)
y=7x+7 6/7

2: Find the slope of the following lines (-4, 7), (-6,-4)

(m means slope, but i dunno why…)
m=5.5

3: What is the Y-Intercept of this equation 6x-2y=19
6(0)-2y=19
-2y=19
2y=19
y=19/2=9.5

Will you check if these are right? I want to know if I used the right methods…

First one is wrong, the others are correct

2 & 3 are right!
Unfortunatly, I am not too sure about 1,
it was one of the questions I got wrong on my test.

@Morio
@McThingy
you are false, I already did these, it was a test that we got back,
it’s not homework!

You could still look it up online to see…
I did…

EDIT: And I never said it was homework…

Well, you said I should look it up, so I assumed you thought it was homework and that I should
figure it out myself, but the point of the post was to test others.
And anywho, the message was more or less targeted primarily at Morio, sorry.

Okay???

One question mark (?) would’ve done just nicely, the other 6 weren’t necessary.
Thank you!

1: y=7x-27

why didn’t anyone get that? it is easier than 2&3

Okay???

Okay???

Kramer is dissapointed at your post…

Simply draw the line (or just insert the values for x and y) and you will see that this one is also wrong

1: Write the equation of a line that is parallel to y= 7x + 4 and passes through (4,5)

The slope of the straight line is k.
The “offset” is d

A default straight line equation looks this way:

y = k*x + d

So obviously k = 7, which is the slope of the line.

Parallel straights have to have the same slope.
To go trough the given point, we “offset” it.

(y - 5) = 7 * (x - 4)

Solve to y and get your parallel straight through (4,5)

In case of doubt, use pen and paper and just draw the 2 straights.

sorry my bad! I meant to put y = 7x -23
