Difficulty importing Mixamo assets into Blender

I’m having all sorts of trouble importing Mixamo characters and animations into Blender. I was able to import the character mesh & armature by using the fbx converter and changing the file format from fbx to dae (collada). However, the same trick isn’t working with the animations. I tried fbx as well as converting the animation to obj and dae formats and none of them will import correctly. They either produce import script errors (fbx) or animations that have key frames which are all in the rest pose. I checked the animations with the fbx viewer and they do play properly and the file format is reported to be fbx 7.4. What sort of farm animal do I need to sacrifice in order to import Mixamo animations?

(Blender 2.76)

Here is a text tutorial on using Mixamo with Blender, while here is a video. It’s not that hard once you figure out the workflow, but that parts a pain in the a…

I too have a problem with mixamo. I use 2.77. I also tried 2.74 and noticed they behave differently when trying fbx, so I guess there was a change between 2.76 and 77.
So the issue:
Collada import: armature looks nice, but no mesh. I can import the mesh as fbx, but I would skip reskinning if I can…
Bvh import: works great with makewalk, but makewalk doesn’t assign the fingers…
and then fbx import: well it kinda works, but every single bones are pointing upwards and there are extra empties in the scene representing some not used bones. I’d like to see the armature fixxed as I’m sure it would cause problems eventually.
