Difficulty With Text Editor Cursor and Selecting

When I click in the text editor, and try to place the cursor in front of a word or specific letter, the cursor is always placed on the right side of the letter.

If I want to place the flashing cursor in front of a word by clicking on the first letter it looks like this
“e|xample”
I have to move the mouse pointer way off to the left for it to be placed correctly like this
“|example”

Is there a way to fix this? Or edit it in some way? It is very annoying, and it worked correctly before the ui change in Blender 2.4x

I haven’t used Blender in a few years, thanks for any help

Perhaps some tutorials on placing the mouse cursor would help, or possibly you could click the left arrow after placing the mouse cursor in the wrong spot? (Yes I am being facetious…)

Yes, Blender’s text editor is no gem but it has improved since 2.49.

Most people use an external text editor.

Ha, no I searched all over the internet, and I found no tutorial on cursor placing.

Yes i may just use an external editor. It’s not a big deal, just annoying.
