Digital Photography Tools in Blender

Hello everyone,

I know that OpenEXR lets you save Z information in the image. Is there any format that lets you save all the activated passes, so that you can load the image into the compositor at a later date and process separately from rendering?

I am working on a project where one shot takes 1.5hrs per frame to render, and the shot is 500 frames long. If I want to make a change to an effect in the compositor on final viewing, I need to re-render the whole sequence. It would be more beneficial if the images could be saved in a “raw” state, then you could load the image sequence into the compositor and have your Z, specular, vector etc passes available without having to re-render.

Is this at all possible in Blender? Would this ever be a feature that could be added? Would anyone have any benefit for this?

Best regards,

Andy

Use the MultiLayer image format. This will save all render layers and passes in a single image file.

Hello Richard,

Thank you so, so much. I can’t believe this has been available since 2.43 and I’ve missed it all this time; feel a bit stupid now hehe!

Thanks again,

Andy
