There’s also a brief run cycle test here, again very much a work in progress. Hoping ot get a compositing test done over the weekend though.
I’m pretty happy with how this turned out, as it was really just an experiment with asymmetric textures and texturing on 4096x4096 images. The high-res textures are really helping ot overcome the problem of not being able to sculpt to high levels.
Good project really, would you mind telling your worklow ?
Do you do everything inside Blender ?
I guess you model a base mesh then you unwrap.
From it you create a high resolution mesh you sculpt inside Blender, and finally you bake details into
a normal map for the low resolution modem you’ll animate ?
Thant sounds logical, but I’m wondering If you are sculpting inside Blender as well.
Keep it up, I really like your animations as well.
Thanks! Yeah, the blue indicates a male I’ll see what I can do about the date, we’re still in the scripting process at the moment
My workflow at the moment is this:
Model base mesh & unwrap,
Multiresolution modifier sculpt,
Paint symmetric texture & bump map in blender,
Bake textures onto another UV unwrap so they can be edited asymmetrically (don’t really know how to explain this properly),
Set up materials, add other details, rig etc.
I used to sculpt in hi-res in sculptris, but I found it got too slow at the level of detail I wanted so hand painting a texture is easier and quicker, but it all depends on your computer.
I’ll probably do a tutorial or something when I get round to it
A bit off topic but Primeval is actually just about to be rebooted by a Canadian TV company with Amanda Tapping as consulting or executive producer, premiere should be really soon. I’m a huge fan of the original. It borders on the utterly ridiculous but they make it work anyway. Not the first British sci-fi-series with that issue though, hehe… ;D
Edit: Checked now and the series will premiere in fall of 2012.
Primeval: New World looks like it’ll be good, yeah, though I’m slightly disappointed The Mill aren’t doing the VFX any more
Anyway, if I can steer the convo slightly back on topic, here’s a render of the lystrosaur, textures pending. Eventually the finer detail will be achieved with a normal map. Also need to sort out the eyelid shape, its a bit square…
Nice to see a non-Mesozoic animal here. The artistic license really benefits this one(more than the pachycephalosaur), and the Placerias-type look is far better than that of a traditional Lystrosaurus. Nice.
