dioptrical glass :-(

Hi all,
it’s me bothering you again with my crap.

I bought today new glasses and because I am more and
more obsessed, the first thing I’ve done was to model them.

http://www.volny.cz/kavani/glasses.jpg

I shaped the glass inside to correct shape but! How can
I make (if that’s possible) dioptrical deformation of an image?

If it is too complicated, I’ll pass for now, but I’ve been
wondering if there is solution to it. Right now I am
using directed empty and calculating env map. Also I am using
procedural blend sphere texture for basic glass applied to alpha
channel. But - I am stucked here.

Thanks in advance

Jan

Ps. it’s far from ready, so please don’t comment lighting and
scene, because it’s just for testing purposes.

lookin good. the nose things could do with a little more hard and spec, but thats ok.

Thanks,
but the problem is that I do have
hard to 255 and spec to 2.0 and I can’t move it any further.
I can at least try to increase alpha and/or reflection.

There was some scrpit for making deformations in the glass. But native Blender renderer doesn’t allow to render refractions, reflections, caustics and the oter raytracing effects. Try to find the script…

Thanks for stopping me from my attempts.

Someone also emailed me tip to use YafRay for
actual raytracing, but for now I will stick to blender.
I will move to other software after I learn better blending.

It looks good.

To get a sort of reflection/refraction in the glass, I do the following:

  1. Find a good quality image texture from the web that has very contrasting colours, (i.e. a building with grass infront and with a good blue sky).
  2. Apply this image as a texture to the material and use the REFL mapping option instead of the standard ORCO mapping.
  3. Change this to TUBE instead of FLAT
  4. In the options buttons, (that’s what I call them anyway), press REF & EMIT once each.
  5. Now right below those buttons, there is a slider for COL. Change this to about 0.4
  6. Press F12 to render and you will see what I mean.

Hope that helped some.

Um, Blender is quite different from other 3D apps. If you’re going to change software, do it now and don’t waste the time with Blender.
(Blender isn’t waste of time for me :-? )

whoa, i disagree !! blender is perfect for learning ( ok, apart from the gui ). how many max/maya users are able to creata focal blur/ reflection manually ?

Here is some misunderstanding. I am addicted to blender.
I’ve been speaking in terms of external raytracing, which
has been suggested to me for this case.

I can’t switch now, when I finally
started to understand blender conception and also
I don’t have money for expensive commercial software.

Blender is the thing just for me…

There is a plugin to fake refraction on my old site, but probably a better option probably is to use tuhopuu, Cessen has implemented refraction mapping. Or possibly wait for 2.27/2.28 which might have this option too.
