Here is my latest project using the new Cycles render engine. the idea came from Blenderguru’s “create a Realistic Water Simulation” tutorial, which I’m sure a lot of people have seen or at least heard of. So, here is my result: Final:
I appreciate any critique you can give me. Be harsh if you have to! I want to know what your honest opinion is on the the render/scene. I know there are things that could be improved so thats why I’ve posted this here
Thanks blender Artists!
Also, a dirty martini includes olive juice and is therefore cloudy, this one would be a very dry stirred martini… it’s super-clear.
In real life, ice is also rarely that clear, it usually has a lot of small bubbles in it. However, that’s pretty hard to render, I still don’t know how.
I gotta say, the only thing I see that could use a second glance is the angle of the render, it seems to me that it creates an odd effect around the rim, I’d pull the camera up a bit and see how it looks. I don’t really see the ice as a problem given the lighting and because of the motion of the fluid and the lighting I don’t see how how the olive juice would be relevant at that moment in the render (however after it filled and settled more that would change)
@Kemmler
Adding a little foggyness to the liquid is a good idea, ill run another render and see if it adds to the realism ;). As for the ice, you are certainly right about it not being as clear as i made it. I thought that it would fit the scene better if it was more “flawless” to match the Martini glass, but you made a good point.
@Wilmaciii
Thanks! Ill pull the camera up a bit and see how it looks. I didn’t really notice the effect until you mentioned it, now it sticks out like a sore thumb (so to speak).
I might play with the compositor a bit and see if i can produce a slight glow effect. Not sure how it will look but im going for it anyway:D.
Update coming soon!
@ sftd
Thanks for taking the time to comment on my work.
I certainly agree that the empty space on the left does not work very well. What would you suggest I put there? Maybe a shaker or bucket of ice? Or perhaps another bottle… Ill see what looks best. If i don’t add something to the right side, then moving the camera over a bit might solve the emtyness issue. I thought maybe adding the liquid under the olive would make it look like it was just taken out of the drink, but your right, its looks odd.
This was actually a fairly easy scene to render because it is low poly and simple. I’m sure you would be able to duplicate it with no problem if you followed the tutorial
@Animaniac888
Thank you. I also prefer the green one, mainly because it works better with the type of drink that it is (Dirty Martini) which consists of olive oil and vermouth.
Ok, so ill try some things suggested and post the update tonight (my computer renders quite slow).
Happy Blending!
I like the changes although I thought your original concept was good. I think the bottle is too fuzzy still. I think the olive having fluid under it looks fine but I do think it needs a few more drops here and there in various sizes, it still looks a little too neat so that would help it. I like either color but if your gonna try to sell the green one, bring out the green in the olives a little more, you can see why in the bottle itself when looking at both pics why you would want too. also I’m not sure if your going to sell this to a company or not, but if so, I wouldn’t fill the other side like some may suggest, as that is where your font work would go. I think this is a very nice job and I think that it would be portfolio worthy and even more so if you could sell it to a company that could use it.
yes i certainly have been trying to improve the look and feel of the scene and and at least trying some of the suggestions that I’v been given. When I first started this project, selling it hadn’t crossed my mind, It was simply for learning the workflow of cycles and finishing a project that looked nice and professional.
The bottle is fuzzy due to the DOF and the low number of samples. Maybe removing the depth of field all together might look better though. Ill add a few more drops around the olive, because it does look too “neat” at the moment. I was trying to figure out how to bring out the green in the olives more without making the scene too much brighter. The only light source is the orb in the background and it hardly lights the olives the way i had hoped it would. I might just try changing the color to be brighter so that i don’t have to add more light to the rest of the scene.
Did you like the liquid being poured in the glass concept better? I was having trouble getting the liquid to look like it was being poured out of a nozzle from a drink shaker, so i removed it.
That would be great if i could see this to a company:D! How would I go about doing this?
I sincerely appreciate all the critique, comments, and suggestions you have given me wilmaciii and others who have taken the time to comment.
One last thing i’m planning on doing is making an animation. That will be uploaded in the distant future.
Happy Blending!
