Hey all,
Was just wondering if anyone had attempted to make a disco ball in Blender. Modeling it shouldnt be too too hard, but the effect of the little lights flowing around the room is what im curious about.
If anyone has any suggestions (modeling or light etc…) it would be greatly appreciated.
The lights beam, and this can be done with dupliverted very narrow spots,
The flickering of the ball itself, maybe with some halo.
The first point is a fake because true balls are made of mirrors and illuminated by a single (or multiple) spot light(s). Hence you would need a raytracer for correct modeling, but, well…
I’ll post you an example if I find 5 minutes…
<EDIT> Yes, it works, IconSphere, level 3, Spot with 2 degrees width, intensity 1, halo and shadows on, halo level 0.4, my web site has problems, can’t upload.</EDIT>

For the flickering of light on the ball, you should use a blend texture mapped with NOR instead of ORCO.
Also, the shining problem could be done the other way around, using a 6 square spots to create a 360 degree point light, putting it into a sphere with wholes in it.
