Display driver is suddenly crashing

Blender’s been working perfectly fine throughout what’s been almost a year that I’ve been using it, but just today, for seemingly no reason, the display driver is crashing at intervals of less than 30 seconds. This only happens when Blender’s running, nothing else. It’s also worth noting that it happens even when I’m not in render mode. What could be causing it?

Computer specs:

  • Windows 7 Professional
  • Intel® Core™ i3-4330 CPU @ 3.50GHz
  • 16GB RAM
  • 64-bit

I suppose you do not have a dedicated GPU? Did Windows Update do you the favor of installing a “new” Intel GPU driver?

I would proceed in the following order:

  1. install the official Intel graphics drivers (from Intel’s website)
  2. if the problem persists, reinstall Windows
  3. if the problem still persists, buy a new computer

I’d try installing and using some variant of Linux before #3 though. Mint has been really good in my experience. Not to mention installing to allow dual-boot is an option, if you still need Windows for something.

Don’t get me started.
