Distorted mapping on imported mesh

Hello I am new to Blender
I imported this sofa into Blender and when I applied a cubic map, the texture appears all borken up in some faces. Is it a mesh problem or jus UV. Is it posible to fix it without using UV unwrapping?

You can do it this way (use the Mapping settings to scale up or down the projected image):
