Distorted material/texture

Hi guys
im making a watch with leather band, im using a material with cloud textures for bumps and so on. but it looks like the subsurf is messing it up.

I made a simple plane with no subsurf, so you can see how it should look like.
Are there no way arround this, without making UV ?

I’m not sure, but maybe you should try the different coordinate and projection options in the mapping section of the texture panel (if that made sense…)
