Distorted textures

Hi there,

I'm not new to 3D modelling/texturing/rendering etc. by any means, I am however quite new to Blender.

I'm attempting to build a model of a retro payphone. Most of the process has gone well, however, I seem to have encountered an issue that I have not yet been able to solve.

I've applied a texture to the ring around the dialpad. The geometry is simply a shallow pipe shape, where one side I had unwrapped. For some reason the texture appears distorted in places despite the fact that the mesh and UVs are geometrically perfect (as far as I can tell). Subdividing the surface appears to help a lot, however, I don't want any unnecessary polys.

Maybe u can try unwrapping using “project from view”.

Wow! That worked! Thank you so much!

Although, I am curious as to why that worked. The original UVs already looked geometrically “perfect” after all…
