Distributed rendering ala seti@home

Hello,

I was wondering if there is any initiative on creating a seti@home alike rendering farm on which users can spend their spare CPU cycles. I’ve tried to google on this, but couldn’t find anything.

The way I see it is:

  • User registers to network
  • User makes an animation which will distribute the .blend file to registered users which are idle
  • User retrieves rendered images from above mentioned users

To safeguard against forever taking renders (eg. too complex) one could say that the rendering of one image should happen within a certain time period. To guard against malice, one could send the same job to two users and then compare.

Hope this makes sense.

Yours,

Edwin de Jong

Check out http://burp.boinc.dk/.

It is going to be very cool once up and running.

Koba

And hopefully support MacOS.
