DivX and widdows.

Hi everybody,
I conned a buddy into downloading DivX to watch Cyan Sun. But when he runs the setup windows warns him not to continue. Something about certificates. Is this something to stress about or can we just go ahead?
Im obliged for any help.
Willy.

What flava of windows is your friend running?

Sonix.

i think that same warning came up for me, its nothing to worry about.
Just make sure you’re not downloading the version with GAIN, that can really screw up your fun.

Certification is just Microsoft’s way of trying to take over the world. The rationale is that if Microsoft hasn’t tested a product themselves it isn’t safe. HA HA, like the products Microsoft produces are stable and safe.

If you got the product from a reputable source, and/or it comes up clean on a virus scanner, it is unlikely to adversely affect your system. In the case of DivX I’d go ahead and ignore Microsoft.

Hi again.
we are using XP.
The DivX was downloaded from their website and I’ll be sure to check that its not GaiN.
Now I’ll maybe get to see what the hype was all about.
Again, I’m obliged for your help. Thanks!
Willy.

This is Keith cos Willy is funtionally illiterate with anything that doesnt sail on water!

I ran the setup and it installed with no glitches
But win. mediaplayer, nero mediaplayer, quicktime and real all cannot find the codec. What should I do now?

Please bear with us! We’re just a couple of old farts blowing in the breeze.

did you rebooted? Sometimes, you have to reboot so that windows registers the new codec like it should.

oh, and I don’t think Quicktime uses AVI codecs, so you’ll probably have to use one of the others.

IIRC there is a player called “The Playa” installed with DivX, did you try that one?
