DJV Viewer 3.5.0 is out!

For sure, my tool cannot replace DJV. It doesn’t support exr, etc. But it works in the browser, when you need just to quickly preview your sequence and/or export to video, it works. I will continue to add features there, if you have any suggestions, please share
Yes, probably I will create a topic

Ok ! if you create a topic and need some feedback I’ll try to give some !

What I really like about DJV is that it’s born from a very clear need : you can tell right away that the author work in the CG industry and he made a tool they regularly use.
On top of that the UI is really nice and it comes with the right amount of feature.
Compared to Mr Viewer that is very good too and more powerful but is a bit more messy.

Anyway, the best advice I can give is to be passionate about CG and use your tool regularly to see how it best solves the problems at hand.
I mean what you have is a good start but there is still a gap between something that do the job on paper and something a lot of artists will find useful !

Just look how cool is that :

As a professional sequence player for CG the bare feature DJV has :

  • clean UI
  • it caches the frames so you can play smoothly back and forth.
  • support for zoom and pan the screen.
  • it has sound support (for lipsync/animation)
  • you can launch it from another software like blender.

More advanced features :

  • display RGBA channels separately.
  • comparison of two media with different mode ( split, overlay, difference…)
  • color picker
  • levels / HSV adjustments
  • OCIO support
  • 32bits / float support
  • metadata inspection
  • conversion image → movie file

There is even more crazy stuff like a grid display which that probably 1% users will use, or USD support I didn’t tested, but the cool thing is also that all those settings don’t come in the way. As you probably won’t use everything, the UI is pretty well thought and stays minimalist to adapt to your needs !

Anyway, keep using your tool extensively ! it’s the best way to polish it and if it’s pretty useful to you it’s going to be for someone else ! Glad to discuss it further in another thread (feel free to poke me there) … Here it’s just not the right place !

Hey there! Thanks for posting about DJV v3.3.3 - we just released 3.5.0 with a ton of new features, more OTIO support, comparison modes, custom aspect ratios and bug fixes. Check it out and let us know what you think at hello@grizzlypeak3d.com. ILM alum Darby Johnston still builds DJV (since 2004), however it’s now distributed by family owned Grizzly Peak 3D. Thanks again for your feedback and support!

Appreciate it! Keep us posted on features you’d like to see on a future update. We have more coming soon…https://grizzlypeak3d.com/djv-studio/

Nice to see you. I’m using DJV well. :slightly_smiling_face:

I am a user who uses Asian characters.
I’m curious whether you have an error-fixing plan based on the issue with the characters included in the path (not supporting Unicode characters).

ERROR: No mapping for the Unicode character exists in the target multi-byte code…

Yes, thanks for asking - the fix for the character issue should be in the next release coming soon, check our Github for the update. If you have any other issues pop up you can also reach us at support@grizzlypeak3d.com. :bear:
