Do you have account in Wikipedia?

Hi! I’ve created in Wikipedia an userbox for the users of Blender, so we can put it in our user pages. Most open source software, like Firefox, Inkscape, Gimp, Linux, Debian, etc., have their userbox but Blender didn’t had their one, so I made it.

You can check my userbox here, at the right (it’s the seventh):

Also, I’ve created a category of users who works with Blender:

If you have an account in Wikipedia, you can add {{User:Lubrio/Userboxes/User Blender}} to your user page to add a nice Blender userbox and be added to the category of wikipedians using Blender.

You can find another one, on the French Wikipedia:

:wink:

I’m boycotting* Wikipedia due to questionable Admin ethics. And less than clear policies(take a look at such great policy as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:IGNORE). The whole place is plagued by people suffering from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Editcountitis and common assholeness. I’ve seen more than 10 articles that have been of interest to me being flagged for deletion on basis of “notability” or other BS policy like that. Wikipedia is sick from the inside and the fact that anyone can be an admin makes it even easier for people to tag-team and delete articles that are written by people that they don’t happen to like or about something they don’t like. I’ve seen it happen and at that point I lost fate in Wikipedia the “free” encyclopedia.

*NOTE: By boycotting I mean that I don’t edit anything within Wikipedia or donate funds to Wikimedia Foundation

Well, I tried first creating an userbox using the Blender logo as icon, but some admin erased the icon arguing that it haven’t an open license compatible with Wikipedia. I made a search but really I can’t find the license that Tom uses with the Blender logo, so I rendered Suzanne and used it as icon for the Blender’s userbox in Wikipedia English.

Really, many of the politics in Wikipedia are annoying; it is not easy to get used to them.

@Wereaser

Yea good point. Its a great resourse but it must be taken for what it is. Often uncurated or just optionated.

The issues you mentioned are well reconized and solutions are being considered. Including full closed admin… bit like the pople use to curate nomal enclyopiedas.

Of course just like normal enclopedias there still will be errors.

Wikipedia is a nice Web-2.0-common-experience-community-project which produces sometimes interesting articles about different topics. An Encyclopaedia? - I don’t think it will ever be one.

i 'lli go and apply an acount in Wikipedia :slight_smile:
