DOA - Kasumi - 3D Printing Figurine

Hello hello

I just want to share with you what I’m working on at the moment:

This is my first attempt of printing a figurine.

The model is cut in 26 parts and will be 25cm tall.

The 3D printer I use is an Ultimaker 2+ with Cura.

Right now, here’s what I printed so far:

(sorry for the quality, I only have an iPad and a poor lighting x))

The result needs a lot of cleaning but I’m satisfied about it. The hands are good enough for example. Cura did a great job to make them printable

The goal of it is not to make a painted figurine (I don’t have the material), so it will be a figurine with underlayment only.

Deadline is 10 september, but I want to make an other one too :spin:

So interesting… sorry for the question, rather than advice, but how do you do it? You print parts which could be put togerth? Or rather glued together? Have never printed, but want to try too

Hello,

Yes, as you can see in the first post, the figurine is made of separate parts. So they need to be glued/weld together.

If printed object is hollow (no inner structure to support the shell), separating it into parts is needed so it doesn’t deform while printing (PLA filament is melted thus making it soft - unstable/deformed). Joints can be made as moveable or as you mentioned, to be glued… depends on intent (stop motion animation, toy or figurine). After parts are printed, hardened (and glued together) you smooth the surface using acetone and paint it (if so wished).

Cleaning, sanding, painting, sanding, cleaning, painting, sanding, cleaning, sleeping, sanding, cleaning, painting… :spin:

Sanding again and again…
