Does anyone have any ideas on how this pesron did this

I am just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how this person did this, or what they did to make the shader. It’s no big deal I am just looking for peoples ideas.

There’s no shortcut’s here, or quick and easy ‘Arcane’ button.

Early in the video, they show that that used Substance Painter, and they also say they used some procedural materials they created in Designer, probably to give some grunge, and variations etc…

You can’t generate the entire thing proceduraly.

The trick to how the artists at Fortiche made the painterly style for Arcane, was that they actually painted it. All of the textures they made were hand painted, probably using something like substance or Mari, or even something in house.

If you want to mimic the Arcane style, then you simply need to paint the textures!

Find a brush pack that mimics brush strokes, or use Substance Painter which included lots of brushes. Study reference material from Arcane, understand what they’re actually doing, and then try and replicate it.

But yeah… most of the video you have linked is simply talent, and a deep understanding of the process.

Oh how I wish there was.

Yeah thats what I thought. thanks for your time :grinning:

Anybody can do arcane style characters! if you believe it you can do it :wink:!

Thing is the Arcane style is really a throwback to the hand painted textures we already used almost 15 years ago in Blender. Xrg was the best here at painting textures that looked like this while using Blender.

The key to working this in Blender is to find alpha textures for brush tips that work well for multiple angles and stroke types.

The first video I saw after Archane hit Netflix was this one…

and a nice discussion of Archane Visual Style

I found these, which are really interesting

Does anyone haVe any suggestions of how I could make this more “ARCANEY”

This is all handpainted

Its hard for me to see what makes it look likr arcan or not, so i thought somone else whos not painting it could see.

That’s a great start, I’d say. Next step would be to add some additional layers to build up some of the details. A grunge texture of some kind to add some general dirt and wear. Maybe a scar here and there. Dirt around nails, and in crevices etc…

Lots more you can do.

I’d also take a look at the eyes. Arcane use a pretty distinctive system for the eyes.

Thank you I will give it a try

Update.

I am not sure if there is a better way of saying this if nitpicking is necessary by all means be nitpicky

Looks good to me! :+1:

So its ARCANE worthy?
I am not sure if you can tell, but he is supposed to be a really comedic character.

Arcane seems to be made with very high contrast lighting, so more contrast with shadow and highlights I suppose.
