Does softbody help animation ?

Hi,

I have a problem with animation.

Think of a tube.
I put a simple aramture “into” it just to bend the tube at
one point.

Do you have tried to bend a tube made by paper ? ;O)

That’s my animation test looks like!

What I want is a smooth bending (there are enough vertice
for that…) instead of a “tube breaking” or something which
looks like a tube after a crashtest…

I assigned all vertice to a group and used that group
in the softbody settings. I enabled “Postdef”.
And than I got stuck, since “weight” has nothing to do
with bending. I tried various settings of springs and frictions but the only thing I got as a result was
that “bended paper tube”.

Or did I used the wrong tools ???

Thank you veryx much in advance for any help or hint !!!
Keep blendeirng!

Do you want a particular animation effect, like your tube wobbling smoothly and if one end of the tube gets moved the other end follows slowly, or would you just like to bend it correctly?
If you want the latter, learn about weight painting:

If you want the former, maybe softbodies are more easy to set up, but you might find this interesting too:

(I have no idea how softbodies work…)

Hi Egg !

I wanted to bend the tube smoothly.
Unfortunately the link is web.archiive is half dead (no
pcitures…) and all following parts of the tutorial
are linked against a dead server (no longer existing?)

Do you another place whre I can find this tutorial ?

Sorry, I though the text alone was quite clear. It was the best tutorial on weight painting, but now the site is dead. So I linked you to Archive.
Anyway, here are some explanations:
