Does the Cycles / Eevee hair shader also work on meshed hair strands?

Hi,

I’m wondering: does the Cycles / Eevee hair shader also work effectively on meshed hair strands, for example meshed Fibermesh from ZBrush that was exported to Blender?

Or does the hair shader only work correctly on Blender particle hair?
