Why does VirtualDub not seem to recognize Xvid?
I tried to load in a simple lipsync from Blender encoded in Xvid and
in .avi to add audio but when I tried to open the .avi, it reads
"Couldn’t locate decompressor for format ‘xvid’ (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec
to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by
Windows Media Player, are not suitable."
I have the latest version of the the Xvid codec installed on my
computer, so why doesn’t it work? Is the Xvid codec not a VFW compatible
Your help is appreciated.
Xvid does work. When installing xvid, you need to select the install VFW option.
Unless you are using 64bit vista, in which case nothing will ever work.
Mpan3, is the VFW option under decoding options?
Also, I downloaded a the 1.1.3 build from a site (not the official website).
When installing, I didn’t see a VFW option. What should I do?
Because at the official website, the Windows download page
link is broken.
EDIT: I installed FFdshow and checked some VFW installation options
and I can open the video in VirtualDub. Thanks for the help Mike! =D
NEW EDIT: Oh my, I figured out right after installing FFdshow that Blender can now
embed your audio clips from the sequence editor in with the render now.
I got the impression it couldn’t when I was looking at a snippet of a tutorial
for 2.42… Thanks anyway!! =)
