Hi, I’ve linked an object with its armature to a scene blend file. I try to make the camera DOF follow this object, but since the object center and the rig center, both stay at the center of the scene, I can’t make the camera follow the animated object. What can I do to have the center of the object follow the animated object?
Thanks
what i do is use an empty as a DOF target, parent that empty to the character rig’s head bone, and set that as the DOF object for the camera. the only caveat is that you can’t very naturally do any focus pulls this way, or if you do you’ll have to counter-animate against the parenting, or use another camera.
I’ve had this problem as well, but I learned what apparently I had never thought of: armatures can be animated with both pose AND object data. This means you can make a run cycle with out movement forwards in the pose data, but then you can also animate the armature outside of pose mode to make it move Foward or backwards, side to side, etc. this will keep the armature’s origin in the correct spot, then you can use this for the DOF object directly. Sorry if that is a bit confusing.
Thanks, i’ll try that. I guess this is not a problem of a linked animation, but animations in general, isn’t it? I mean, the object center always remains static during an action.
It seems I can’t use these tips. Since it’s a proxy I can’t parent a empty to the bone, becouse I can’t enter armature’s edit mode.
The second solution doesn’t help my case, becouse animations comes from the linked file.
Any other suggestion?
? i’m confused about what you’re doing exactly; this workflow sounds slightly odd to me. you’re linking in a character that’s already been animated? does your situation require it be done that way? if not, why not link the character in and make the rig a proxy so that you can animate it in your scene as much as you like? this way, you can enter pose mode and parent an empty to a bone of your choosing. you don’t need to be able to enter edit mode for that.
That’s it. I feel stupid now, i didn’t think in parenting the empty in pose mode. About my workflow, I’ve got different blends for the character, the animation, and the render. Maybe is too much, but I wanted to practice linking.
Thanks for the help!
