DOF with particles

I have a scene setup with layered textual phrases. As the camera flies near the mesh, the mesh breaks apart using particles. The problem is that you can see the next text phrase coming up while the nearest one is breaking apart. So I would like to use DOF

I’m using nodes to achieve DOF. I got it to work great with any kind of mesh. But it seems not to recognize particles in the z-depth output. Any suggestions on how to achieve this?

Have you tried the Unified Render option in F10?


Have you tried using Mist?

Put it in a different layer and composit it with it’s own blur adjusted to fit in with the effect.

have you parented mesh to the particles, i.e bits of exploding mesh, or are they halos?
