Hi! I worked on interesting project last year, so I want show some stuff from it. It’s augmented reality application for android. Application shows 3D animation, similar to hologram from StarWars movies. My job was to develop the concept, making the model, texture and animate a dog and stand (projector). Hardware limitations of mobile devices have forced quite low budget for polygons and textures. In addition, the tracking algorithm takes a lot resources, so we had to save each vertex.

Dog’s mesh has 372 vert. / 716 poly, stand 307 vert. /474 poly.

Pet modeled from a real dog’s photo, pleasant mascot of the company. Mesh was built face by face with some sculpt fixes.

The texture is common to both models - .png 512x512 RGBA. Base texture was done in Photoshop / Painter, then almost completely repainted directly in Blender with mipmaps off - great for that kind pixelart texturing. The animation has a 7 fps and it was my first time with 7 fps animation. The output files are .md2 - Quake 2 format. In this format, the animation is stored into the points cloud stack, as in lightwave’s .mdd. Unfortunately Blender does not support md2 as standard and there are several different versions of the script. After save to .md2 and load back to Blender gets a sequence of shapekeys with the corresponding keys every frame. It is also good to set interpolation keys (shape keys) to Linear, avoiding the typical “scrapie” animation occurring sometimes at the Bezier’s int.

The final application can a little bit more than just playing looped animation.
