Don't drink and drive music video: Updated Mpeg version

I was sitting around with my buddy last summer and he showed his video camera. It was an old camera from the early 1980’s. I mentioned that we could make a video of one his songs. He played his song don’t drink and drive and I started video taping him. I also started visualizing a lot of the lyrics and thought about how I could translate those visions with Blender.

At the time, I only knew how to model things with blender, barely at that. Over the course of three months, I learned how to do things that I had previously no clue how to do.

Keep in mind this is a first attempt, we know what we did wrong and can improve on. We are our own worst critics; however, my friend said that the message is the most important thing and the visual stuff is secondary.
There’s an updated mpeg version so anybody can watch it regardless of their operating system.

woohoo  I managed to see it here at work…

great stuff. lo-fi, but it had it’s moments, special effects and crossfades… very nice psychadelic…

I will never drink while I’m driving again.

Thanks,

We don’t have pro audio recording equipment i.e. good microphones.

Very nice job… I bet it took you forever to put together… Did you do all your editing in Blender or did you use something like Zweinstein?

It took three months late August 2002 to December 2002., but I worked on it an average of 12 hours a day/ 7 days a week. I used Adobe Premiere for the editing and After Effects for the compositing, and Blender for the animation. Thanks for your comments.

…the applause… every time i see it, i laugh…

Excellent message. Everyone should watch this video. It should have a great impact on high-school kids. :stuck_out_tongue:

Keep up the good work

Sincerely,
Steven Spielberg

Thanks for your good comments. We were not trying to preach, it was the words of the song that inspired this video.

Reading your introduction of the video it appeared that you are a beginner at blender, and considering that i was amazed when seeing the video! Using pretty basic modeling in some places you still get the right effect, and I especially respect the effort of you to actually finish it, because I know a LOT of blenderheads that VERY rarely finish animations projects, myself included. I’m actually planning to do a music video myself!! I’ll be sharing it with you if I do finish but it would probably take me some months as well, thanks for inspiring me again

Oh yeah I wanted to say… I especially think the bar scene looks good :Z

p.s. Don’t drink and drive, you guys, seriously

Good luck with your video. I’m looking forward to seeing it. Thanks for your comments. I used basic modelling to cut corners. We wanted done for a deadline in order to get it aired on local cable but ran into politics and it never got aired. You’re right, it doesn’t matter, it still gets the point across. Once again, thanks, and good luck with your project.

Hi Cree,

what do I need to watch a .WMV file? Divx player and win media player (win95nt) won’t play it.

Sonix.

I tried an mpeg version, but the size exceeeds my web space. I tried div x, but it didn’t work because of the 320 x240 original resolution didn’t match DIV x codec requirement and the resulting video was in purple and green only.??? Sorry, I need 30 meg to host a half- decent mpeg4 or 1 version of this video.

This video requires full attention of everyone. %|

hey cree:

It might be too late, but do you still want web space for that movie? Please inform me if you do…

I have 400 MB and I’ll be upgrading to 650 or 800 MB in the future… I’ll create a ftp account for you if you want to upload it yourself.

Tell me what you think please.

Thanks.

DM7;

Yes, I'll take you up on that offer. Thanks , I really appreciate it. Thanks again.

Here’s an updated MPEG version that everyone can watch if they want.

14.2 mb download.

wow, I never replied to this… I musta been drunk! anyway, great video, I especially like the amount of work put into this, a little cheesy, but like you said, it gets the message accross

It’s graduation time, and I’m sure a lot of people won’t get the message and end up in the Hades theatre. Thanks, and yes, there is a lot of work involved in something like that. Blender is a great program for something like that, it has a great interface which allows you to do a lot of work in less time than the “other” programs.
